La Foun is a large, ancient and secluded farmhouse in south-west France, on the edge of a small village in lovely Lot countryside, between the historic bastide towns of Beaumont, Villeréal and Monpazier. The hour-long walk to the village of Monpazier is a stroll through as beautiful a landscape as you will find in Europe.

The house is part of a large historic property - for your exclusive use - which over the centuries has been a farm, a forge and a prunery. Step out of the kitchen on to the terrace next to the 17th-century pigeonnier and enjoy 180-degree panoramic views of farmland, woods and distant hills beyond.

The beautifully-restored kitchen-diner seats eight comfortably, with a cooker (gas hob, electric oven), dishwasher, fridge-freezer and microwave.

The large salon still has its original fireplace and Evier sink, and is equipped with ADSL/Broadband, a DVD-player, CD/radio-player, games and books.

Three large twin bedrooms and one double with superb views over the valley (there are additional guest beds).

Also downstairs: a modernised wet-room with shower, WC and basin; a walk-in supplies cupboard with washing-machine.

The terrace at La Foun has wonderful panoramic views over the Dordogne/Lot countryside.

Within the garden is the swimming pool, which is regularly maintained, a barbecue and a fishpond with over fifty fish (not for the barbecue!). The two fields below the garden belong to the property.

There is a games barn with table-tennis and boules, and other stone barns including one for parking.

Did the usual activities such as canoeing down the Dordogne, but also recommend the tree-top climbing at La Capelle-Biron. Loved the local wildlife – roe deer in the fields, barn owls in the roof, golden oriole in the trees and a black redstart nesting in the garage. All in all a perfect holiday. Ambler family, Scotland.
