Meeting Spanish people
Always shake hands with a Spanish person, whether arriving or going, whether you know each other or not. In less formal contexts, females kiss males and other females.
The Spanish may be famous for their siestas, but not all Spaniards have a siesta every day. It’s more usual in the heat of the summer, when many people work una jornada intensiva. and complete the whole day's work between 8am and 2pm, or even 7am and 3pm, without taking a break.
Even if Spanish people do take a siesta they do not necessarily sleep more than other people. Restaurants, bars and cinemas are open until well after midnight, and you will see families with young children out until late.
Shops generally open between 9am and 1pm and then 5pm to 8.30pm.
